With nearly two decades of experience in Los Angeles investigating or advocating in a wide range of cases, anything from criminal to corporate law, working for the defense or the plaintiff or as a neutral, Canterbury Law and Investigations has developed an expertise in one thing all areas of the law have in common: the Unexpected.
It's a truth about the law that having the better argument does not always mean you will prevail. But at Canterbury Law and Investigations, we know having better information will always be an advantage. No matter what challenges you're facing, being prepared with the best information possible will make those difficult decisions just a little bit easier.
Investigations can be costly, both in time and money, so it is important to focus your fact-finding on the issues that can actually help you make decisions. Our wide range of legal experience and training informs all of our investigations to ensure the facts we find are actionable.
Alan Canterbury, an attorney and investigator in Los Angeles, California, is the founder and CEO of Canterbury Law and Investigations. Originally from Washington, D.C., Alan's background in social justice and multiculturalism began at a young age: by ten years old, Alan was bilingual (English-Spanish) and a poster he made advocating for peace was published in an international political journal. Since then, Alan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Film Studies from Claremont McKenna College, and a J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law. Alan served as judicial intern to the Administrative Tribunal in the State of Guanajuato, Mexico, and as a judicial extern for the Honorable Dean D. Pregerson, in Los Angeles, California. In the early part of his career as a lawyer and investigator, Alan worked on death penalty cases, where he learned a sensitive approach talking with witnesses and clients about deeply personal topics, such as abuse, and trauma. That sensitivity has carried forward into all aspects of Alan's work, where he has crafted a compassionate approach to getting information and a balanced sense of navigating disputes. Alan is a sports enthusiast, carpenter, gardener, musician, activist, a former college athlete, a husband, and most importantly, a father. In addition to fluent Spanish, Alan also speaks conversational French.
